Parkade Waterproofing Replacement

Worker digging with machine

Parkade waterproofing replacement is a relatively new service brought about by the poor waterproofing practices of the 80s and early 90s. An underground parkade is the platform upon which a building sits, and has a hugely important role in the structural stability of the property. Ignoring this fact, developers would apply single component unreinforced urethane onto uncured concrete before covering the membrane with landscaping (and hoping for the best).

Soon after the waterproofing would delaminate from the concrete slab. Water would enter through cracks in the surface, freeze and enlarge the crack. In time, the parkade slab deteriorates, creating a significant structural issue

Parkade waterproofing reinforcement

The is no easy solution – to fix this problem we are required to:

  • Remove the existing paving and landscaping to expose the deteriorated waterproofing

  • Scrape off what is left and prepare the concrete surface for new membrane

  • Apply a new waterproofing membrane, fully adhered to the existing concrete

  • Apply root barrier across the planted areas and drainage mat throughout

  • Make repairs to the spalled concrete on the underside of the slab

  • Restore the hard and soft landscaping to its’ former glory (or a new layout of your choice)
